I picked up crocheting not too long ago. I just bought myself a kit via Ebay and followed the instructions using the book and hooks in the kit. So far, I've made a few basic items like scarfs, baby blankets, booties and hats. I'm currently working on another baby blanket.
I would like to proceed to more advanced patterns but have yet to find the courage or confidence to do so. Some of the instructions are still so confusing to me. I think it's a little harder when you don't have anyone to show you how to do some of the stitches. But I will not give up! I enjoy crocheting and find it very therapeutic. Not to mention, completely satisfying when I see the end results and the faces of my friends when they receive my gifts.

America's Got Talent 2007
I have a few favourites for this season. Here they are :
CAS HALEY. This guy has talent! I love his raggae style and how he makes every song he sings, his own. Here's his performance from the last show :

Is this how we thank the troops?
I was just reading a really sad but shocking article today about this Baptist church that believes troop deaths are God's judgement against America for tolerating homosexuality. They protest at funerals of these fallen heroes!
The article speaks about how one woman from the church is charged for allowing her 10 year old son to stomp on an American flag outside a soldier's funeral! She then filed a legal challenge stating that the state law to protect the American flag is "unconstitutional" and that it "violates her right to free speech". WHAT??!!! It really saddens me to know that these people exist in America and that my husband is risking his life so that these people can have the freedom to say and do the things they do. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Parents As Teachers Program
I just signed up my son for a great program not too long ago. It's called Parents As Teachers. The focus is on early childhood education and development. If you have a child(ren) between the ages of 0-5, I would encourage you to look into the program. Best of all, this great program is FREE!
Here's a little excerpt from their website about their program :
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually age 5.
Parents are supported by PAT-certified parent educators trained to translate scientific information on early brain development into specific when, what, how and why advice for families. By understanding what to expect during each stage of development, parents can easily capture the teachable moments in everyday life to enhance their child's language development, intellectual growth, social development and motor skills.
As a PAT family, you receive:
Personal visits -- during which your parent educator will share age-appropriate child development and parenting information, help you learn to observe your child, and address your parenting concerns.
Parent group meetings -- which are opportunities to share information about parenting issues and child development. Parents learn and support each other, observe their children with other children and practice parenting skills.
Screenings -- to assess your child's overall development as well as health, hearing and vision.
Resource network -- that links your family to other community services.
My son really enjoys the monthly meetings. He loves doing the activities with his Parent Educator and me. And she brings him little gifts of books and toys to encourage him.

Online Baby Showers
I was just reading about online baby showers today. The idea is that you can create an online baby shower site complete with live chat, shower games, birthday bets, guest book, photo album, videos, gift registry, etc. Once the baby is born, you can turn the shower into an online birth announcement. One such site is Web Baby Shower.
I can see the value in such a service where the expecting parents are far from family and friends, like myself and hubby. So, will I be having an online baby shower? I'm not sure. Maybe not. I just don't think I'll have the time to host such a site. But I do think it's a really cute and neat idea :)

Mommies Night Out
Our church just started a new "Mommy and Me" group. We had our first Mommies Night Out last night. It was awesome! I can't remember the last time I had an all-girls night out.
We went to a local restaurant. It was nice to be able to eat unhurried and uninterrupted. No fussy child, no having to tend to someone else. The luxury of being able to focus on just me was really nice. And being able to do this with some friends and have some great conversation and great food.....fabulous.
Apparently, my 2 year old did really well being left alone at home with Daddy. And Daddy survived too. Hmm....I might have to do this more often!

Garbage Truck Camper?
This cool monster here might look like a garbage truck from the outside but it is actually designed as sort of a cross between a mobile home and an off-road vehicle. It's a TerraCross "Home on Wheels".
I wouldn't mind travelling on the road on one of these babies! If you're wondering how come in the pics you can see the windows from the inside but not from the outside...it's because the vehicle has some kind of "lifting roof" that actually rises to let outside light in. How cool is that??!!
I want one!!!!
